Using the surrounding environment and adjacent historic buildings for inspiration, this pavilion has been designed to integrate within the grounds of Aquinas College in Salter Point. The southern section of the building accommodates dressing and coaching facilities for two sporting teams and separate facilities for officials. The northern section contains function facilities for 200 people, together with a commercial kitchen that doubles as a kiosk during sporting activities.
The building is located on the embankment of the adjacent sporting ground and full width limestone steps double as spectator seating when a game is in progress. Oversized verandahs on the northern and western sides protect from both rain and heat, ensuring spectator comfort in all weather conditions.
To integrate with the surrounding environment and the existing historic buildings, clay brick and roof tiles have been used in this structure. Multi level steps doubling as informal seating have been constructed using reconstituted limestone blocks, with feature brick infill sections.
The internal finish of the change rooms was designed and finished to minimise long term maintenance issues. The reception facilities are designed to provide a warm and inviting area for both formal dining and informal gatherings, with all necessary amenities included. All functions can be catered for within the building or under the verandahs in appropriate conditions.
