  • location:
    60 Victorsen Parade, Clarkson
  • contract source:
    Tender

Project Features

prominent design feature:  Designed with rammed earth walls and steel-framed, pitched Colorbond roofs to suit its context, the hall also benefits from high quality internal finishes and facilities.  Occupant comfort has been enhanced above Building Code requirements by detailed passive environmental design to maximise summer shading, facilitate the cooling effect of summer breezes and admit the lower-angled winter sun for winter warming by the addition of evaporative cooling.  High clerestory glazing provides excellent daylight so that electric lighting for daytime use is minimized.  The acoustics of the hall are balanced for performance with an absorptive acoustic slatted timber ceiling over the main body of the hall and with reflective angled plasterboard ceilings over the stage.  Wheelchair access is provided through the main entry and within the building that has been extended to include wheelchair access even to the stage, and, via shaded and ramped walkways, all the way to the Primary school complex.  Enhanced sustainability has not been forgotten either, with rainwater harvesting being added to the project.

construction features:
The external fabric of the hall comprises varying materials, all of which come together in a cohesive union.  Materials along all elevations generally include four meter high rammed earth walls and face brickwork, however; along the Northern boundary there are concertina doors divided by stainless steel columns and downpipes.  Above the main entry is a bull nosed, sky blue, Alpolic awning that ties in perfectly to the columns, aluminium framing / glazing and rammed earth.  Along the Western Boundary is a full length undercover walkaway, connecting the old school to the new hall surrounded by revitalized gardens, new carpark area, upgraded school tennis courts and a brand new children’s play area.

internal features:
The internal finished specified for the hall are of high quality and finish.  Many of the fixtures and fittings are difficult to combine however this has been achieved seamlessly and all come together to create a fantastic school space.  The extremely neat and precise finish is a testament to the abilities of all those involved.  Finishes include full stainless kitchen complete with commercial appliances, acoustic ceilings, full timber flooring, stage area and rammed earth walls.
