"Over
the last two years we have had the pleasure of
working with and for Gavin Construction. They
are our clients in a Design and Construct project (where they are
building the new Coca-Cola Amatil
facilities in Hazelmere) and they have been
builders for the Community Hall at St Andrews
Primary School in Clarkson, for which we are
Architects to the Catholic Education Office (BER Project).
In
our experience,
Gavin Construction have shown
themselves to be extremely
professional. Their organisational abilities are excellent, from
their initial project appraisal, through tender
preparation and presentation
to their on-site contract and subcontract management. This has resulted in
excellent time and cost management and enhances their ability
to maintain a high standard of workmanship (as demonstrated
by their recent MBA Award for Excellence in Construction at St
Andrews).
Maintaining
such high standards
appears to me to be due in no small part
to the Directors' ability to
attract and retain excellent personnel. We look forward to future
projects with Gavins."
"Contract
Procurement
In spite of several challenges the design
priorities and mechanisms, including infrastructure and statutory impositions, the
collaborative approach for cost review was managed reasonably and fairly.
Project
Administration
The staff for the project have provided a
transparent and comfortable work relationship which allows the on-going issues
of day to day management to be quickly and efficiently addressed.
Quality
Gavin Construction approach their work
with an eye for the finished product and although a pragmatic efficient building
process is a very important parameter, the design and life cycle cost are also
high priorities in the final outcome.
Program
All building projects have their
challenges and the St Andrews Grammar Library has had several elements of the
subcontract team which required strong management techniques and although there
has been some program issues the methods of rectification and critical path
review to address time loss, is the key performance indicator which is evidence
of a talent for flexible and lateral thinking to fix a problem.
Professional
Interface
The professional team relationship for
the project procurement has moved through all aspects of the project process with
a high level of mutual appreciation for the responsibilities that all parties
have to contribute to the welfare of the final product. With this management
approach, the project should continue to practical completion producing a final
product with satisfactory cost, quality and time management."
" This
letter is to confirm that we have worked with Gavin Construction and, in our experience,
found them to be a very proactive, friendly and professional builder. The project
we completed with them was completed to a high standard of quality on time and
within budget and to the satisfaction of our client and all involved. Gavin’s
site team worked cooperatively and in a friendly, helpful manner with the
client occupying the site and in the same manner with us and the consultant
team. We look forward to working with the Gavin team on future projects."
“Gavin Construction has satisfactorily
completed a number of local government projects for Holton Connor, examples of
which include the following:
- Cockburn
Youth Centre for the City of Cockburn 2009 ($6.0m)
- Amherst
Village Community Centre for the City of Gosnells 2010 ($5.0m)
- Meadow
Springs Sports Complex for the City of Mandurah 2010 ($3.0m)
Gavin Construction’s project control
in terms of their administration and organisation of materials and labour and their
rate of progress is good. They have excellent office backup, and documentation
and record keeping is good. Time is not wasted in pursuing frivolous time and
cost claims.
The firm has demonstrated good project
control and ability to produce and adhere to strict works programmes. Each
project has been generally completed within the designated time programme and
acceptable budget control.
Most of these projects are medium
sized new projects and Gavin Construction’s standard of workmanship has been
good.
Site supervision and control and a
willingness or otherwise to work constructively with the Architect can be the make
or break of a project. In this respect we have always found them reasonable to
work with and able to accommodate changes constructively and with a minimum of
drama.
Would be happy to recommend Gavin
Construction as building contractors on projects and they have proven that they
are able to perform well on medium sized local government projects.”
"Following a tender process, the Town of Kwinana awarded
Gavin Construction the project to construct the Thomas Kelly Pavilion.
This project consisted of a multipurpose hall and change
room/abulations for a variety of sporting groups.
The key staff members assigned to the project by Gavin
Construction were Sean McCormack the Contracts Manager and Robbie Biondillo the
Site Supervisor.
The service provided by both key personnel was at a very
high, professional standard which assisted in a sound working relationship
between Gavin Construction and the Town of Kwinana.
The project was delivered on time and within budget
constraints.
In conclusion, the Town of Kwinana would engage Gavin
Construction to undertake other building works subject to meeting the specified
tender process requirements."
"Gavin Construction were engaged by DevWest to design and
construct 1 $8,500,000 five storey office building at 30 Moore St, East Perth
with a contract construction period of 52 weeks. The building was designed in
accordance with The Department of Correctional Services, the tenant to a 4.5
star NABERS rating.
Construction followed demolition of the existing structures
and comprises of concrete pad/strip footing supporting formed concrete columns,
formed transfer slab and precast panel walls and a structural steel roof
structure clad with Colorbond roof sheeting. External finishes included texture

Hydraulic, Electrical and Lift and fully automated external blinds. The ground floor
level comprises of parking for 13 cars, and electrical sub-station, bins and

Although delays occurred with removal of existing power
services on site, Sean McCormack – Project Manager and the Site Team, Joe
Biondillo – Senior Site Manager, Andrew Furze – Surveyor/Supervisor and Robbie
Biondillo, Supervisor reclaimed the lost time by issuing target finishing
programmes to subcontractors and liaising closely with the City of Perth.
I am pleased to have worked with Gavin Construction and look
forward to working with them again.”
"I wish to confirm the School's complete satisfaction with the construction of the new Junior School Gymnasium completed by Gavin Construction in October 2010. It is a great building built on time and on budget.
I would also like to acknowledge the work completed by Mr J Rowntree and Mr N Barr during the construction period, which was very professional and cooperative with the School's representatives."
"Prochem contacted Gavin Construction initially to provide them with some ideas of what could be achieved with our very old and run down premises. Gavin Construction was selected due to their great reputation. Upon meeting Peter Hearne, we were confident we had made the right selection in a building company.
We then worked with Peter and Erling De Beer, in a potential plan and initial costing. Once all the planning and pricing was completed, both Peter and Erling presented this to the other 6 shareholders. Myself and the other 6 Shareholders were so impressed, a decision was made not to obtain other competitor pricing. We did however have an independent Quantity Surveyor review Gavin's Quotation.
Gavin Construction was then engaged by Prochem on a Design and Construct basis to build a two storey office and warehouse addition and refurbishment to our existing building. The total construction was $2,273,350 inc GST.
The design comprised of tilt panel external walls built off concrete footings supporting a steel framed roof covered with metal deck roof sheeting. Numerour changes occurred to the design such as removing the existing Asbestos roof, an additional awning roof, removal of internal walls, refurbishment of additional rooms/wet areas, retaining walls, drainage and electrical services.
Despite the above additional work, the project was completed withing the agreed timeframe. The construction team, Sean McCormack, Contracts Manager, Justin De Pardo, Nigel Barr, Stuart and Nathan were fantastic and regularly reported progress to Prochem with construction reports presented at site meetings.
The end result has given Prochem a Fantastic working premise, both in the warehouse and Office. To top this off, our premises won the 2010 BDAWA design awards.
The overall experience was excellent and in particular due to the efforts of the team members above. I would highly recommend Gavin Construction to other companies considering this type of construction."
Thank You!
"I write regarding the construction of new school buildings on our Myaree campus currently being undertaken by your firm.
Having now worked with members of your team I feel compelled to write.
The professionalism, pleasant demeanour and business ethic of your staff is, in my opinion, well above the norm. I speak particularly of Justin De Pardo (Contracts Administrator) and Simon Hudson (Supervisor).
As you can appreciate a major construction site and small children can never be a good combination. At all times however, Justin and Simon have ensured the safety and well being of our school population whilst maintaining scheduled works.
I personally have appreciated regular site meetings, e-mail contact, courtesy phone calls and informal discussions. It appears nothing is too much trouble!
Congratulations of the engagement of staff of such high calibre. It certainly reflects the professionalism of Gavin Construction.
I would strongly recommend your firm to all prospective clients!
I look forward to the successful completion of our new school buildings and thank you for your interest in our school."
“The City of Bayswater engage the services of Gavin Construction to build a new “Design and Construct” sporting facility with an approximate value of $1.25m, at the RA Cook Reserve in Bedford.
The project is currently on target and is expected to be completed prior to the contract completion date.
We have found Gavin Construction to be proactive and positive in all aspects of the construction process with minimal variations to the contract. Any problems that occurred during the construction process were brought to the attention of the City and dealt with in a prompt and efficient manner by the Gavin Construction team.
Not only do we anticipate the project being as successful at completion as it has been to date, we highly recommend Gavin Construction to any other local authority and have no hesitation in recommending Gavin Construction tender for any future works that may arise within the City of Bayswater.”
“I would just like to pass on my appreciation for the excellent job you have done at the Cockburn Youth Centre. The outcome is something we can all be proud of. We have a continual parade of people who come just to view the centre.
The partnership between yourselves the architect and the City of Cockburn has been a very positive experience. The additional times, often on short notice that you came to the centre when there was an issue to be addressed and your overall flexibility was much appreciated. Ron your advice on several matters also saved us valuable dollars and gave us excellent results.
The professionalism of yourselves and team was also noticed as this is not always the case these days. Things like having the regular site meetings, the minutes been done on time and the actions been addressed within the given time frame are all procedures that made the overall project run smoothly and enhanced the communication process between all parties.
It has been a pleasure working with you and your team and I hope we may have the opportunity to do another project together in the future.“
"This letter is to thank you very much for the fantastic job Gavin Construction did on the Aquinas Design & Technology Centre upgrade and addition project.
We would particulary like to thank Nigel Barr and Sean McCormack who were keen to find solutions to the various challenges that go with upgrading older buildings. A good sense of cooperation, teamwork, honesty and respect prevailed throughout the project and I think this, together with Nigel's building experience and care on site, was a large factor in the outstanding success of the project.
We would also like to thank Chris Forbes who introduced us to your company and with whom we dealt in the initial tender stages of the project.
As you found out at the post-occupancy survey with our client, our client is delighted with the building and the service you provided.
We wish you all the best and look foward to working with you on future projects."
"I would like to commend you for the excellent performance by Gavin Construction in building our new corporate headquarters and warehouse here in Myaree. We have been here now for six months, and are still enjoying the superb building facilities you have created for us.
I was very impressed with your ability to understand all our requirements, respond promptly when called upon, and also your ability to cope with the pressures that we occasionally put on you! The tradesman that you employed all seeded to take pride in their work, and this showed in the quality of the finished building.
Once the building was finished and occupied, you continued to respond quickly and effectively to the occasional query that arose, and that continuing interest and concern is something that I consider very important in a business relationship.
I anticipate requiring some major fit-out work on our recently acquired second warehouse, and will certainly be calling on your to carry out this work for us.
In conclusion, I would certainly be happy to recommend your company to other businesses looking for a building company that they can trust."
" Six months has now passed since we moved into our new premises and all is well. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your services.
You have been a pleasure to work with at all stages of construction. Your personal service and advice made our task much easier.
Every visitor to our offices comments on the building's style and quality leaving us an impression that we have chosen the right builder.
I would have no hesitation in utilising your services in the future and would be happy to recommend you to all prospective clients. Thanks again.
"I have known Sean Gavin of Gavin Construction professionally for three years, and have worked with him on a regular basis for the last two years.
I have found him to be a responsible, professionally competent and an honest person in all my dealings.
I have no hesitation in recommending him"
"Gavin Construction has been associated with our firm on numerous projects over many years. One such project is the Ellenbrook School at Mornington Parkway, Ellenbrook, for which our firm provided the structural engineering design and documentation.
During this, and other projects, we have observed a modern, well organized and efficient team, able to deliver a good standard of workmanship and cost performance. We have always experienced good co-operation from their on-site supervisors, and a strict conformance with the materials and procedures specified.
We have no hesitation in recommending Gavin Construction as a company well suited and capable of building large commercial projects in a capable and professional manner."
"I have worked on a project in Modal Place, Canning Vale where Gavin Construction was the builder and Borrell Rafferty Associates Pty Ltd were the Quantity Surveyors.
On this project Borrell Rafferty Associates Pty Ltd were employed by the financier to provide contract administration services.
I found Gavin Construction to be well organized and the factory, warehouse and office development was completed on time and within budget.
The standard of workmanship was of a high quality and the level of co-operation received from the builder was excellent.
I am of the opinion that Gavin Construction have the capabilities to construct projects of a similar nature and value."
